Mermaid: Experiences & Certifications

 Find your peace and strength in a mermaid class with us. We welcome everyone ages 6 and up in mermaid classes. Please see additional details and requirements for each class below.

We conduct Freediving courses, Discover Mermaid Experiences and Mermaid Certification Courses year round. ​Mermaid Program Frequently Asked Questions
Discover Mermaid Experience
Minimum age  ~ 6 yrs. In a safe environment with a certified PADI Mermaid Instructor, we offer mermaid fins and tails for all ages, shapes, and sizes. These 1-hour mermaid experiences can be conducted at our pool or your private pool.
This course runs as needed monthly.

Basic Mermaid
Minimum age  ~ 6 yrs.  A 1-day certification course with a certified PADI Mermaid Instructor. Through a classroom and in-water session, learn the basics about swimming safely with a mermaid tail. To enroll, participants must be able to swim 25m and float for 3 minutes unassisted.
This course runs as needed monthly.

Mermaid
Minimum age ~ 10 yrs. A 2-day certification course with a certified PADI Mermaid Instructor. Through classroom and in-water sessions, learn everything you need to know for safe mermaid swimming ~ whether you want to be a mer for fun or career! To enroll, participants must be able to swim 50m and float for 5 minutes unassisted.
This course runs once a month or more as needed.

Advanced Mermaid
Minimum age ~ 12 yrs. A 3-day certification course with a certified PADI Mermaid Instructor. Through classroom and in-water sessions in open water, learn what you need to know for safe mermaid diving. To enroll, participants must be able to swim 100m and float for 10 minutes unassisted. 
This course runs once every other month, as needed and scheduling permits with open water sites.

Basic Mermaid Instructor
Minimum age ~ 18 yrs. A certification course with a certified PADI Mermaid Instructor. Through classroom and in-water sessions, advance your skills to PADI Basic Mermaid Instructor to start working as an Instructor! To enroll, participants must be able to swim 500m and float for 10 minutes unassisted. 
This course runs as needed and scheduling permits with open water sites.

The PADI Mermaid Program

Dive into the world of mermaid and freediving with the new PADI Mermaid certification courses! Whether you want to become a certified mermaid for fun, for your career, - we have a course level for you! These sessions are led by Ani Ferguson at Dive Utah. Ani has been a professional mermaid and performer since 2004. Gain insights on swimming, skills, performance, safety and much more while connecting with the Mermaid and dive community! 
​“I’ve been involved in the scuba and freediving world for a decade and this class was *without a doubt* the most FUN class I’ve ever taken. There’s no worry or fear, and it isn’t competitive at all- it’s literally what it sounds like: Come be a mermaid!

The PADI Mermaid program helps you learn very basic scuba and free diving concepts about pressure and how it affects you, what you see underwater, basic in-water safety, and what to expect, as well as ecological awareness and how you fit into the ecosystem when you’re mermaiding (and how to keep that ecosystem healthy!). The dive shop had a good variety of sizing for their fins and tails (I was a little worried about the tail sizing because I’m heavy, but it was no problem!). All I needed to bring was a “secure” swimsuit (you’re moving differently in a mono fin and you don’t want it sliding), a watch that could be in the water, a pair of regular fins, and a mask/snorkel (the shop also rents mask, snorkel, and fins for the class if you need them ), and a pen for some paperwork. 

Come take this class- you won’t be disappointed! Mermaid Ani does a great job explaining different concepts, prepping you for the skills required (some surface swims, a tread, and underwater swim in a monofin) and she is a very patient teacher. This class would be fun for all ages! We had some mermen in the class too which was cool- anyone can be a mer! Can’t wait to take the advanced mermaid class soon!”
