"
Do it! It is completely worth it" ~Alan, Freedive student

Academics
The Basic Freediver course consists of two main phases:
  • Knowledge Development through independent study with the Freediver eLearning pairs with Classroom Knowledge Development.
  • Confined water session to learn breathhold techniques as well as static and dynamic apnea, plus proper buddy procedures. Goal - static apnea of 90 seconds and dynamic apnea of 25 meters/80 feet.

Equipment
In the Basic Freediver course, you learn to use a mask, snorkel and fins, and may also use a wetsuit and weight belt. Using gear designed specifically for freediving is best and will be the most comfortable. However, in this course, you may be able to use snorkeling equipment you already own.

Skills and Training - Sample Course Schedule
  • Friday - Knowledge Development Classroom Session & Swim test (200 meter swim unassisted)
  • Saturday - Confined water (pool) training sessions for Breathing, Stretching, Static Apnea, Dynamic Apnea, Rescues and Surface Skills.

Freediving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.

Avoid disappointment, download, review, and complete the Diver Medical form at least one week prior to your course start date to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a freediving course. Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.
