Course: Basic Mermaid

All courses require the completion of the Diver Medical Form, Assumption of Liability Form, and Safe Mermaid Practices Statement of Understanding Form, before participating in a course.

Course Information
In this three hour class the student will learn about the basics of mermaid swimming and freediving (apnea diving) with an on deck learning class followed by an in-water pool session with a max depth of 10ft. This course includes a background in mermaid stories and lore, how to choose and put on a rental mermaid tail or fin, stretches, self rescue skills, the basics of safe breath hold techniques, weighting for buoyancy, surface diving, how to enter and exit the water, how to float, and then have a bit of time to take photos. After successful completion of this class you and/or your child will receive an eCard for Basic Mermaid..
AGES / ABILITIES: Children must be at least 6 years of age (recommended age 8+), at least 48" tall, and be able to float for 3 minutes, swim independently for at least 25m, and be fully comfortable putting their face in the water and swimming underwater without goggles. The max depth in this class is 10 ft. Please be sure that if you are enrolling a child that they are comfortable swimming in deep water.
WHAT TO BRING:
For Ages 6-Adult. Minor children must have a parent or guardian remain on site.

Freediving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.
Avoid disappointment, download, review, and complete the Diver Medical form at least one week prior to your course start date to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a freediving course. Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.

- A SECURE swimsuit
- Water
- A change of clothing
- A rental mermaid tail with fin is provided during class, or you can bring your own if you have one of the following brands: Mermaid Linden, Suntails, Mertailor Whimsy, FinFin, or Cape Cali. Mermaid Linden is highly recommended for beginners.
