Advanced Freediver

Are you ready to take your freediving skills to the next level? The Advanced Freediver course is your passport to deeper, longer, and more confident dives. This program goes beyond the basics, focusing on advanced breathing techniques, equalization methods, and safety procedures that allow you to explore the underwater world with greater ease and control.

You'll learn to refine your body and mind connection, extending your skills in static apnea, and dynamic apnea, to achieve personal bests you never thought possible. With the guidance of your instructor, you'll delve into the physics and physiology of freediving, understanding how your body adapts to increased depth and pressure. The course also emphasizes the importance of a dive buddy and proper rescue techniques, ensuring you can enjoy this unique sport with the utmost safety. By the end of this course, you'll be able to confidently and comfortably freedive to depths of up to 24 meters/80 feet, unlocking a whole new realm of underwater exploration.
$650

"The most valuable part of this course was building knowledge about safety, skill progression, and confidence in the water. Ani created a supportive learning environment, which really helped build my confidence."
~David, Advanced Freedive Student

Academics
The Freediver course consists of three main phases:
  • Advanced Knowledge Development about freediving principles through independent study with Freediver eLearning
  • Confined Water Session to learn breathhold techniques as well as static and dynamic apnea. Goal - static apnea of 2:30 and dynamic apnea of 50 meters/165 feet.
  • Open Water Sessions to practice free immersion and constant weight freedives, plus proper buddy procedures. Goal - constant weight freedive of at least 20 meters/65 feet.

Equipment
In the Advanced Freediver course, you'll need mask, snorkel and fins, and may also use a wetsuit and weight belt. A well fitted open-cell freediving wetsuit with a hood will be an important tool to completing this course. Using gear designed specifically for freediving is best.

Wetsuit Rentals: If you prefer to rent a wetsuit, please review this document for rental terms. Contact us for sizing and details.

Skills and Training - Sample Course Schedule
  • Monday - Knowledge Development Classroom Session
  • Wednesday - Confined water (pool) training sessions for Breathing, Stretching, Static Apnea, Dynamic Apnea, Rescues and Surface Skills.
  • Saturday - Open Water Training for Surface Skills, Free Immersion, Dynamic Apnea dives to target depths, Rescues and open diving skills. * Open Water Fees may apply. In Utah we can train year-round thanks to warm springs in the area, but you will still need a wetsuit for most locations.

Freediving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.
Avoid disappointment, download, review, and complete the Diver Medical form at least one week prior to your course start date to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a freediving course. Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.
